Twas the last night of "Blankie"

When Little Girl was around 11 months old I realized that she didn't have anything that she was super attached to and everyone's baby seemed to be attached to "something" and I didn't want her to be in the minority. I always just threw whatever blanket was clean and was spit-up free into the stroller or carseat or whatever, but never the same one.

So, I took it upon myself to go find something satin-ish and pink and cozy that my angel could keep with her and give her a little security when she felt scared or insecure or in need of comfort.

I found one that I thought was perfect because it was just as I had described above and it said "princess" on the front. You seriously cannot beat that. I started giving it to her all the time and she quickly became, indeed, attached.

That Blankie has been something she has loved with a passion and if I told her I would go get it for her to "smell" (she is a smeller) and to hold than she would think that all was right with the world again. I loved having blankie for road trips and traveling because it was just faithful. LG is a thumb-sucker and a darn cute one at that. She only sucks her thumb when she sees her blanket though, and I knew that after our last dentist visit that we needed to start heading towards blankie freedom because the girl is 4 1/2 now.

Side note: She will declare to you right now that she is not "regular" 4, she is 4 1/2. Don't mess.

We have been building up to her that a day was coming soon when she would need to say goodbye to the blankie because she is getting to be such a big girl, and well, the thing is shredding and molting everywhere from all the love and attention and "smelling" it gets every night. It looks sooo pathetic.

Tonight was the night.

We did a little video of her sharing what she will miss about it and how much she loves it and how she will show it to her kids when she gets older and becomes a mommy. She seems very excited about it (for now) and I think she is ready. She shoved her thumb in her mouth as soon as she saw it tonight and acted like she was having a final goodbye with an old friend. We kissed her. We prayed with her. We sent her off to sleep for the last time with her pink companion.

Here are some pics of LG from tonight.

Here's a big girl shot of her over Easter after my mom did her makeup for fun. Can you tell she thought she looked sassy? Well - she did. :-)

I'll keep you posted on how the week goes. Crossing my fingers that she doesn't try to climb up into the attic in the night to find her shredded "lovey".

Don't worry...just tell her there is a much more faithful companion for ladies. It is noted right there on her shirt as a reminder...ice cream! Who needs a blankie when you can have ice cream?

Awww...what a brave little girl. I am curious to see if the thumbsucking stops too. We have a cute thumbsucker too, & are wanting to help her give that up. But she doesn't have a lovey or blankie that correlates with thumb.

Looking sassy for sure! Hope all is going well with giving up the blankie!
