Back Update - Part 3 & Shopping

So I went to the doctor to finally get my MRI results. It was like holding my breath for 2 weeks and being all drugged up until I could find out what they wanted to do with me!

Torture!

I have 4 bulging discs and the most recent one is pressing on a nerve which has caused all the pain in my gluteus-maximus area, along with my low back. I also have some mild arthritis as well which could be causing some issues.

What they say is happening is severe muscle spasms when my back goes into total freak-out mode and I can't move. It's beyond painful and I can't even tell you how debilitating it is. Not good.

What is weird to me is that I am still in pain after my latest "spasm", which was last Thursday. I am usually back to my old self by now, but that is the problem they said "I'm getting OLDer and I heal less quickly. Thanks for making me feel like Grandma Jean.

I was taking Oxycodone for the first 3 days when the pain was the worst and also a muscle relaxer. Now I am down to the lowest does muscle relaxer and also a steroid to reduce the inflammation. I got in my van for the first time since last week and took each of the kids to school. The driving causes a lot of radiating pain, but it was tolerable and I came home to stretch it out, ice it, heat it and take ibuprofen. I start a new round of physical therapy this week and they also are getting me a back brace thing to wear when I feel it "catching". Oh, and I am renting a TENS unit which is like electrotherapy for my low back muscles and it feels marvelous. I may start traction or spinal decompression for my discs in the next 2 weeks if I am still having trouble, so that is the plan.

Super fun day if you ask me.

The highlight was that a sweet friend brought dinner, another one brought cupcakes and my kids are only arguing with each other every 30 minutes, so that's helpful.

I can't go to the store or to the mall right now, and I have been having some spending cravings. My answer to that was, of course,

ONLINE SHOPPING.

So, in laying down 24/7, I did a little Sephora shopping today. I have been looking for a great NUDE colored gloss or lipstick for awhile now and I read RAVE reviews of the following. Hey - apparently Kim Kardashian recommends it too, so - ya know......

Well, it was pricey, but I am hoping it is worth it. It's called NARS "Turkish Delight". Fingers crossed. I ordered it from Sephora and got free shipping, so if I absolutely hate it, they tell me I can just return it to my local store. Yay!

I also ordered Laura Mercier's Silk Cream Foundation that had really great reviews. Again, pricey, but these are my 2 splurges for my face at the moment. I have been struggling with both foundation and a good lip color for awhile, and my typical Walmart and Target purchases weren't cutting it.

Good thing my Maybelline Falsies isn't letting me down. Love this mascara!!! And CHEAP!!!

So, I also ordered a couple of cute things for the kids in the Fall Clothing department and I have to say that these are 2 of my favorite finds for Little Girl.

If you know LG, you know that she is all things crafty and all things ART fanatic. This outfit fit her perfectly with a cute little jean skirt and some pink converse tennies. Love shopping for her!

O.K., well that is all for the shopping and ailing back addition for today. Hope you are having a great Thursday!!

Nighty-Night

Kara, you poor thing. I have had back problems with a degenerative disc pressing on my sciatic nerve causing lots of pain going down my right leg.....it took meds and Pt and time to make it go away. To prevent it from coming back I used to do back exercises every day, but since I have had both knees replaced I cannot kneel to get down on the floor. What helps me most now, is that every single night of my life....no matter how hot it is....I lay on a heating pad for about 15 mins and I can feel my back muscle contracting and relaxing until finally they are relaxed. Oh, and once I do that then I never lay on my back during the rest of the night....sleep only on your sides with a pillow between your legs. I also sleep on my side with my 2 legs making the shape of the number 4...just like the number I just typed. My pain was on my right side, so I mostly slept on my left side with my left leg straight and my right leg bent and that seemed to help my discs spread and not pinch that nerve. I hope this helps you and we will be praying for you to be pain free soon. Love, Laurie & Rick
