I have had two solid days of eating now. I mean some good, solid pigging out here. We had a great day with my in-laws and David's sister and her husband, who all congregated here at our house for our day of Thanks. I don't know what you guys eat on your big day, but here is the low-down on the Messner menu.
Turkey - Hello!
Mashed Potatoes and gravy
Dressing - my personal favorite
Cranberry sauce - Ewwww. Not for me
Sweet potato casserole
Rolls
Green bean casserole
Jello salad
Pecan Pie with Andy's vanilla custard
Pumpkin Pie
Chocolate Chip cookies
Sparkling apple cider
Yeah - I consumed nearly all of that stuff -for 2 full days. Here piggy, piggy.
We got our lights up on our house today too and they look snappy. I put out my new Christmas welcome mat, my cute snowman a friend made for us, the stockings have been hung and my little baby sock advent calendar is up too. I have so many Christmas decorations that I pulled out of totes that I totally forgot about because I buy stuff every year AFTER Christmas when it's like 80 percent off and then I store it away for the following year. It's so fun opening up the boxes and seeing what I have to use. I am really excited about the way the house is looking and I promise to post photos once I get it all done. Tomorrow the plan is to go get a REAL tree (for our 1st time) and trim that baby tomorrow night. The weather was like 70 degrees today which was insane and made my husband annoyed. He wants to be bundled up in flannel when it's the day after Thanksgiving and man was he bitter. :-)
The more I decorate the more this sweet house feels like home. I truly love that feeling.
Oh - and the Turkey Trot was awesome. The kids did great and we felt great getting out and doing something the morning before the feasting. We talked about making that a part of our tradition. So fun.
I hope you all had a blessed Thanksgiving and used that time to be thankful for all that you have and all that you have been blessed with. God has been so good to me that I can't help but stand in awe of the gifts that have been bestowed on my life. I don't have to tell you that the gifts I have been given in my children are beyond words. I can't believe these 2 little people are MINE. That WE were chosen to be their parents, and that GOD felt we were BEST suited to raise them out of all the other mommies and daddies in the universe. I tend to get all MELTY when it comes to Little Girl and Baby Boy. They are cuteness and sweetness wrapped in God's favor. I am thankful for that sweet husband of mine too. He often shows me why I married him and why I would do it all over again. Watching him love our children the way he does and enjoying the love he bestows upon me is simply awesome.
So, see?? Thankful!!!!!
Aren't you?

I'm back! Been a while since I've sit down at the old computer and read blogs. (see the iphone isn't the best invention ever...too hard to read blogs on it) Love the Christmas sock calendar idea. Adorable! Can't wait to see pics of your house all decorated. Of course, if you don't post them soon, I'll just come over :) Sounds like you guys had an awesome Thanksgiving. We really talked to the boys this year about what it means to be thankful. Not quite sure they completely understood as the top 2 things on Greysons thankful list were cookies and a lamp! Anyways...see you later at the gym.
Sounds like you had the perfect traditional feast with a healthy dose of family thrown in.
