My husband made this yummy discovery a year or so ago, but one look at this particular food, didn't do much for my eyes or my stomach, so I never gave them a shot.
I truly hate peas and so this veggie, bearing a striking resemblance, I assumed would be yucky to my taste buds as well.
Edited version: I had posted the way of saying Edamame incorrectly and I have now made the change to the correct pronunciation. It is not Eda-mommy as I was previously told by a previous neighbor who shall remain nameless (Kelley) and I finally looked it up myself now that my friend Lynn has mentioned that it is spelled a different way. I stand corrected girls.
I tried Edamame (Ed-a-ma-May) at my old neighbor's house a few months ago (Hey Kelley) and couldn't stop popping these yummy soy beans in my mouth like an addictive bag of chips that I couldn't put down.
Why is Kara dedicating a whole blog to a bean, or a vegetable, or whatever it is - you ask? I am not sure.
It could be that it is late.
That I am overtired,
OR
that I am just the kinda gal who likes to share a new and yummy treat with my friends who are also on a journey of eating healthier and needing something new and tasty to try.
Yes. That's it. I'm a good samaritan.
Anyway.
You can buy these little guys frozen and just boil some of the pods in water for like 10 minutes. Salt em' up. And then slide 'em out of the pods with your teeth and they will just pop in your mouth with their yummy, healthy goodness.
Give 'em a try and let me know what you think.

I too love Edamame! I also love to add the shelled ones to soups & such.
mmmm...I am a huge Edamame fan (I thought it was pronounced more like Ed-a-mah-may). Anywhoo....you can buy them frozen already out of the pods, kinda like lima beans. I have a great recipe for Edamame Corn Chowder. Perhaps I'll post it soon....
Yeah! I got a shout-out! Don't forget, Sam's has the great little individual packets you throw in the microwave. I don't think our new neighbors like edamame :-)
Wow! looks like everyone likes your weird little pea bean things. Gonna have to try it. If I soaked them in ketchup for the boys does that still count as healthy? hehehe
Hey Kara! I just wanted to thank you for keeping up with our blog on this incredible journey of adoption we have been on. Your comments have been so encouraging and truly a blessing. Who knows, maybe one day our girls will meet and we will get to share the joy of mommyhood for a moment together.
Blessings,
Karen
Ok Kara~ you caught me in an adventurous mood... and also I tried Julie's turkey burger for the first time the other night and liked it! So, I guess I will have to extend the food trust again and try this new snack! Where exactly do I get these again?
Okay, I need to try these. Are the really good? REALLY? And what is the story with Julie's turkey burgers?
Ok...tried your recommendation of Edamame tonight at a local chinese restaurant. I'm gonna have to say, they are nothing to blog about. Tasted like buttery peas to me. Like Soy buttery peas. You might want to also re-post or remind readers about your famous turkey burgers. They are amazing! Definitely agree with you on that one!
