Adoption Language 101 - Revisited

Hey friends -

Remember when I did my post on Adoption Language 101?

Well, it never ceases to amaze me at the people that I have introduced my son and my daughter to, and to whom I would like to offer this unwritten book on appropriate adoption language and what NOT to say to an adoptive mother. God bless 'em - I really think people don't know what to say, so they just say anything. Anything that comes into their minds. Anything that might be obtrusive or offensive. Just......anything. Can I please just take a moment to give a shout-out to all the people in my life who love and honor my kids as "my kids" - and who bless me daily by valuing adoption as the beautiful and wonderful gift that it is. You Rock!!!

And so does this lady I heard from today.

I just read this wonderful post by an adoptive mother who did a guest appearance at one of my favorite blogs - Rocks in My Dryer - and thought I would share it with you.

Enjoy.

I'm sorry that people are insensitive and ignorant! I can imagine how annoying that would get everyday. Way to go on educating them....hopefully you will change some misconceptions people have about adoption. I know that LG and BB were created to be your kids and they are YOUR REAL KIDS! Adoption does rock! You'd think that as common as adoption is, people would have more common sense and not talk about it like it is so unusual!

I am right there with you Kara. I feel annoyed for you when people come up to you and make ignorant comments. LG and BB are completely yours and they are so blessed to have you as THEIR MOMMY;-)
