So the hubs and I have been chugging along on the unpacking and the continual organizing (we delved into the garage a bit and also tackled his office) this weekend. Last night we cleaned out the garage and got it pretty well set-up for right now and we even have the van parked in there right now. Can I hear a whoop whoop?
Next, we took all of our dining room chairs and a bench and some barstools that we purchased unfinished and beat the tar out of them with chains and nails that David attached to this stick. Little Girl even got in on the action. She was very excited about this "distressing" process and was offering to do other furniture for us in the house, but we managed to keep her focused on the designated pieces. :-)
We also sold 2 large desks from Ikea and a green bookshelf on Craigslist that I just listed last night and this morning and now I have cash in my pocket and our garage is a little less cluttered too.
We unpacked David's mondo computer screens for his office in our guest bedroom and started setting that up for him tonight since he has a few projects he is needing to tackle, so he felt good about that.
A painter is coming on Monday to pick up all of our chairs that we beat up today and he is going to prime them all and paint them and then David and I will put on a simple "antique" glaze to hopefully (fingers crossed) complete the look.
We had to make the hard decision of choosing to cancel our new headboard and footboard we had ordered for our bedroom and opt to get can lights in both our main living room and the kids playroom. We got our estimate from the electrician and the drywall guy, so once we realized how desperately we need light and how un-desperately I need 4 posters around my bed right now - the decision wasn't too hard. We can always save up for the bed thing, and we have never felt like our Master Bedroom is a real high priority anyway. So - lights it is!!!! I am actually very excited to get this done. Our guy comes on Tuesday to start the work and once we can actually SEE in the playroom (there is no light fixture in there at all) I will be able to paint and decorate and set up all the fun stuff I got for it.
We ordered our couch and 2 chairs for the living room and I think I have decided to paint the wall around my big brick fireplace..........pumpkin orange and then all the other walls a rich khaki color. I am scared but kind of excited too. I had done a pumpkin-y color when we lived in Washington D.C. and I loved it, but this will be a little different. Thinking about buying some paint this week and giving it a try on the walls to see how it goes. Anybody think I am crazy??
Oh - and lastly - we cut down these HUGE shasta daises that were flanking our mailbox but have since died off and started protruding an odor in the past 2 weeks, so we took a hedge trimmer and widdled those babies to the ground. We can actually see across the street now. Those things were huge! Apparently everyone in this neighborhood is all crazy about these daisies, so I am feeling bad about the fact that I want to dig them up and put "kilz" on the ground and start over with something new. I don't want to get egg on my front door, so maybe I'll let the little daisies come back one more year before I have them meet their maker.
Well - that's the progress. We are just going, going, going over here and we are feeling a little tired, but also really good. Pics will follow once the furniture starts arriving. :-)

Girl you are on fire! I totally agree with the lights and the headboard. Our bedroom is last on the priority list too. Anyways, inviting myself over next week!
I'm coming too! I want to see everything you've done! Hurry and finish so you can start on my house. How is it that you've done more in two weeks than I've done to my house I've lived in for almost 8 months? Don't we have the same # of kids? HELP!
I must say I love pumpkin color on the walls- a friend of mine did this and it was so incredibly beautiful. If I was braver I would do something like that. For now I'll stick to my brown everywhere. :) Also- I heart those daisies and am going to copy you and plant them by our electric box that badly needs something in front of it next spring. So if your neighbors cry too much send them my address and they can come pick ours. :)
Love the orange & khaki!
Sounds like you guys are plugging along. Your "distressing" party sounded like it would be a good way to "destress"..haha!
Glad you are making your home your own. Can't wait to see some pictures.
