The Food Network is not helping me...

I lost 4 lbs.

I felt good about that.

I made sugar cookies with Little Girl because she begged me too.

I planned on eating zero, and ended up eating four.

This did not help my weight watchers goal or plan.

It sent me into a little bit of a lazy cycle.

Aunt Flo visited. Ahem.

That didn't help either.

AND - I am becoming too obsessed with The Food Network right now.

Two of my favorite shows are -

The Ultimate Recipe Showdown

and

I still love Rachel Ray's 30 minute meals. Even though we all know that Rachel's food is somewhat already prepped for her and she doesn't have any toddlers or infants to entertain while cooking and therefore her 30 minute meals for me are around an hour and a half, but hey - it's a fun concept.

Watching these shows make me hungry and make me want to cook. Back when David and I first got married and we lived in California - he sent me to a 12-week french cooking school for my Valentines Day present. We were poor and he saved up Christmas money and birthday money of his to send me. Awwwwwww.

It was literally one of the most fun things I have ever done and I would love to do it again. Sometimes I just wish I had a 1/2 a day - with no distractions (aka children under toe) to make some of my fun recipes that I learned such as Strawberry cream tarts, Risotta with Carmelized Leeks and Red Peppers, Potato Carrot Puree, and Rosemary Focaccia bread baked warm and cut into thick slices for sandwiches.

Is your mouth watering too or is it just me?

I seriously would have considered becoming a cook or a pastry chef or something if I didn't think it would result in me having to become a contestant on The Biggest Loser when it was all said and done. I thoroughly enjoy the chopping, the sauteing, and the mixing and stirring. I just can only do it when I am ALONE. Ha! And I think we all know how often that happens.

Well, maybe one day I will share I recipe from my HomeChef cooking school days, but for today I will share a recipe that my buddy Sue used to make for me on our Tuesday hang-out days back in Washington D.C. and now I bake them for everyone else under the sun. They are easy and yummy and you can't help but want seconds.

SCONES

2 Cups Flour
4 Tbsp. Sugar
1 Tbsp. Baking Powder

Mix all together

Add 1/2 C. (1 cube) butter cut in cubes and mixed in with pastry cutter until crumbly.

Mix with 1 Cup buttermilk (or nonfat plain yogurt)

Pat into round on a floured cookie sheet. Sprinkle with Sugar. Cut into 8 pie wedges. Separate onto cookie sheet.

Bake for 12- 15 minutes at 400 degrees until lightly golden brown on bottom. Serve these with your favorite jam or jelly, or for fun you can also throw a cup of chocolate chips into the mix before placing on the cookie sheet. Either way - YUMMY!

Your amazing! I love reading your stuff. Just cherish that you have little people eating what you make. My little people won't eat my creations unless it comes out of a mac&cheese box.
Someday (clearly a LONG time from now) you will be a the Granny that always has goodies that everyone LOVES! Like 50 years from now since we're 19.

I have to agree with Natalie- Anna refuses to try anything new right now. I am hoping it is a stage. Sigh.

I'm gonna have to give those scones a try for sure!

I tried to watch Rachel Ray the other day and I couldn't do it...she was running around like a chicken with her head cut off. She was breathless she was talking so fast. If that's what it's like to make a 30 minute meal, I think I'll pass!! Is she always like that?

Christie - ha! She does tend to do the breathless-crazy-fast-talking thing on a lot of her shows and since her voice is always raspy - I assume she is talking WAY too much. But, her meals make my mouth water and that tends to take precedence over watching the girl sweat to get a meal on the table in 30 minutes. :-)

I can't cook and that is a well known fact. I've gotten better since the boys will eat anything with a side of ranch dressing. I've had the scones and they are fantastic. Ummm...might make them for breakfast tomorrow. I'll definitely be throwing in the chocolate chips. Congrats on the 4 lbs. This is day 4 of WW and I stepped on the scale and am still the same weight as when I started. Thats depressing. Why starve myself??
