My sis and her family left to head back to the land of "Show Me" this morning.
Umm. That's Missouri for all of you east and west coasters who are unaware of our hometown Motto. Yeah.
It was so great having them here. Family can be like a calm to the soul (they can also be the opposite, but let's go with the calm version today.) When life and stress are feeling overwhelming - being with the familiar and people who have known you your whole life is refreshing.
Laughter comes easy with my sister. We tend to finish each other's sentences and both do things like making fun of a chinese restaurant's sign that says "it's not just good cuisine - it's clean" and then us turning around and making a comment together saying "Yeah - we have no bugs here. WE SPRAY" - in complete unison - without prompting from the other one that this is what we are about to say.
It's kind of strange actually. And it happens all the time with her.
We think we are twins, but it just took our mom about 3 1/2 years to get me out after her.
We are actually so very different in our personalities in many ways, but from things down to our random abdominal pains that happen at the same times and in the same ways, and things we say to our children "At. the. exact. same. time." - to our laughter over our new aches and pains that have come with age.
It's awesome having a sister. Can't imagine life without her.
Little girl - I'll see what we can do for ya! :-)
Well, on to Chicago. We stayed there on Friday night at a Very Nice hotel downtown. Our room smelled of lavender and the sheets were clean and plush and my kids both slept great.
Did you hear me?
Both kids slept great. At a hotel. All of us in the same room. Baby Boy in a pack-n-play he never sleeps in and Little Girl - well, in a hotel - a place she doesn't usually feel calm enough to relax in and close her peepers. Too much excitement I think.
The Windy City was.......windy. It was so cold, so the walking was a bit limited which stunk, but we are so going back when it's warmer and maybe even without children!!
We ate well, which is really all that matters. I tried two of the classics on this trip.
Original deep dish Chicago Pizza - pretty yummy.
And
A big ol' Chicago hot dog complete with mustard, onions, sliced tomatoes and a big dill pickle across the top on a sesame seed and poppyseed bun.
An experience for sure.
We had the family here through the weekend all the way up to this morning.
The kids got kisses and spoiling and love all day from everyone. LG's "boys" as she likes to call her cousins were amazing young men to play with this little 3 year old for so many hours and bending to her every whim and fancy.
God bless 'em.
Tomorrow I may post about the fact that I actually sat and painted my fingernails in a bright burgundy red color. It's been a long time since my sad nails have seen polish and upkeep.
Stay posted. This is rich stuff.
