Little girl is blessed with an awesome Aunt (she is called "Annie" for short) who just so happens to spoil her on every given occasion such as Easter, Valentines Day, Birthday, Christmas, Leap Year, Look your 14 1/2 days old, and on and on and on. She is wonderful about making everything an occasion and something to celebrate. See my post on traditions - my sister gets the props in this area.
Well, for Easter - Little girl got some cool sidewalk chalk and a brand-new bright pink Hello Kitty - here I come - KITE. She has been most excited about using this kite ever since we brought it home from Annie's house. Of course, we have told her that it has to be windy outside in order for us to use it, and well, every time I go outside for anything and say "wow - there's a breeze. It's kinda windy out here." Little girl quickly says "I'll go get my kite. Right now." It has been rainy and cold and nasty for so long lately, that I wasn't sure when we were going to get to take it out.
Today was the day!!
It was so fun and so adorable - I couldn't stand it. Daddy came home and offered to put the kite together and we headed out to the front yard to give it a whirl. Neither David nor I could really get it in the air and if we did, it certainly didn't want to stay there. Well, then Little girl gets a hold of it and just starts running like a sugared-up 2 year old and gets that sucker to breezing through the sky with no effort at all.
I kid you not, no one could fly that kite today half as good as she could. David said that the kite was aware when a child was holding it and would only perform for them. I am a believer. We ended up driving up to the park up the street so we could have a long strip of grass to run and play in for her to fly her kite. She was all over the map with this thing and relished in watching it soar high above our heads. So sweet and so fun. I love doing new things with a child. It literally warms my heart to it's core to see her eyes sparkle and the giddyness in her laugh and the thrill that can only be experienced by a child learning something brand new!
We flew the kite, Little girl made a friend named Mackenzie at the park, and then we had to tell her to say goodbye to head home. A typical "I don't want to" moment ensued, but we got her in the car. As I am showing off and "flying the kite" back to the car - I am not paying attention and it gets caught in a tree - to the point that it breaks and there is no way to repair unless we rented a 50 foot ladder and drug it up to the park to retrieve the kite's remains. Not happening. We couldn't let her see that her kite was being stranded at the park, so we distracted and tried to just get her home and talking of new subject matters. She became extremely focused when we got home about where her kite was and she wasn't letting up. We did the only thing we could - we said, Um, it's outside honey. Where? She said. Just outside. We'll get it in the morning.
Yeah. We'll get it in the morning.
After Daddy makes a dead-run to Walmart to buy a new Hello Kitty kite.
It's just like when the gerbil dies....just go to the pet store - they'll never know.
P.S. Still one more day to enter into my Giveaway. Go HERE and read my post about a little treat you could win. Hope YOU are the lucky one!

What an adorable story! I never thought of flying kites with my little dudes. Gonna have to run to good ol' Wal-Mart. Thanks for the heads up though, I will make sure I buy 2 identical kites, you know, just in case...
How fun! So sorry about the kite getting caught in a tree. Your daughter is beautiful by the way. I LOVE the pictures of her on your sidebar. Those eyes just make me melt.
What a cute kite flyer. I love that she was the one that got it in the air. "Let's go fly a kite" from Mary Poppins is one of the songs I have always sung to Kylee. She loves it and now sometimes will say some of the words with me. However I don't think she understands what a kite is. One of these days. We'll have to show her, I mean let her show us how to fly one.
This is too funny Kara!!!!!!!!! Did she remember about her kite this morning?
How are her teeth????
I am going to jump on the bandwagon and say we are going to have to try our hands at kite flying too! And now I also want to relearn the song as Anna is in such a big song singing stage right now!
Well, yes. She did remember her kite this morning and kept asking where it was at. Daddy had to go out of town for the day today and left at 6:00 a.m. We didn't get to buy it yet, so I just kept distracting her all day! :-)
Oh my, those pictures of her with her hair blowing are just precious!
I'll be singing that song all night now...
